It sure sucks blogging when.....

.....You are losing at poker. I've played two online sessions since my last post and I had pretty big losing sessions both times. I played decent both sessions until the very end of them which caused me to quit the sessions. Enough about the hard luck at the tables I have done lots since my last post....

Our soup kitchen experience didn't quite go as planned...we showed up at 7:00 and apparently they moved it up an hour from last year to a 6:00 start time. By the time we got there they were almost totally done cleaning up and there was nothing left for us to do. We were all pretty bummed as we were really looking forward to doing something nice around the holidays. We ended up going to check out the amazingly gaudy Christmas decorations at a house by Bosse field in Evansville (I think it is on Oregon St. and I am sure it will be up through New Years). You should go check it out it if you get a chance...it puts Clark Griswold to shame! In fact, you don't even have to leave your house....here it is for your viewing pleasure!

How is that for some fancy blogging technology?!

Anyway, then we went to the lackluster Ritzy's Fantasy of Lights and then to Justin's house to play some euchre. Then the following morning Justin and I went to the Pie Pan for about the 3rd time since I've been home. Justin and I had always talked about how one day we hoped to be the old man with lots of money that would secretly pay for random people's meals when out at restaurants. A local golf pro from Evansville does this almost every time I see him out in public....a whole group of us will finish eating our meal and our waitress will come and say that our meal has been taken care of by Mr. Hamilton. Of course you always look around to thank him and he is no where to be found. Every now and then (usually only if it is a good looking girl) I will pay for the order of the car behind me when I am in a fast food drive through and I almost always pay for the car behind me when I go through a toll booth. Well, today Justin and I decided that since we didn't get to help out at the soup kitchen like we wanted we were going to do something nice and pay for everyone's meal that was eating in the Pie Pan. At the Pie Pan they leave your ticket at your table when they bring you your food so we had our server round up all the tickets that hand been handed out and bring them to us. We estimated it would cost us around $220 to cover everyone's check, but it ended up only being $115 after tip. That place is so cheap it almost felt like stealing even when we were paying for everyone's meal, haha. It feels good to do stuff like that and I recommend that you try to look for a spot to do a random act of kindness sometime soon. It just makes everyone involved happy.

Last night we went to Andy's house and had an impromptu game night. I LOVE a good game night! We played pool (broke even), spades (lost $50), euchre (didn't gamble), pass the trash/screw your neighbor (lost $5), spoons (won $12), and clabber (didn't gamble). It had been a LONG time since I played any clabber, and let me tell ya...it ain't easy switching back and forth between euchre and clabber. Their rules are so similar yet they are such different games. My favorite game of the night was by far spoons though. I hadn't played it since I was a kid, but I forgot how much fun it was to get your 4 of a kind first and sneakily get your spoon without anyone else noticing and then sitting back and watching everyone figure it out one at a time!

These games were so much fun because everyone playing was HIGHLY competitive. The money was meaningless, but these were the most strategically thought out $5 pool matches you have ever seen. You wouldn't think someone that wins and loses thousands of dollars everyday playing poker would get 10 times more upset about being the last person to notice that all of the spoons had been taken in a $5 spoons game than they would about a $500 beat on the river....if you don't believe it just ask Clint and Charlie about it!

It sure sucks sitting down to start writing a blog sometimes, but once I get going it is hard for me to stop. I laughed out loud a lot writing this one and it was actually pretty enjoyable. I am gonna have to cut myself off for now though. So until next time....try and do a random act of kindness and leave me a comment about it.

My Christmas present...

For Christmas Santa brought me a set of 3's against someones AA in 5/10 NL. I played for a little less than an hour and won $1,261. Poker Tracker tells me that is an hourly rate of $1,376 for today. The family is here and it is going to be time to eat soon so the way I look at it I will be giving up about 3 grand in opportunity cost to eat our Christmas Dunch.....I guess they are worth it ;)

Looking at my artificially inflated hourly rate for today got me thinking about what my overall hourly rate on my laptop has been....$161.01....now, if I could just get myself to play more hours!
That is pretty sick to think about making that much money per hour...I mean that is like Dr. or lawyer type money, but then again....they don't get to work in their underwear and take vacation for 3 and 4 weeks at a time.

I have much to be thankful for this Christmas.

Merry Christmas to everyone reading this blog....both of you.

Ketchup and Chistmas.....

Ok, so nothing about actual ketchup, but instead I will catch you up (I just wanted a catchy title for my blog today) since I haven't blogged in a while.

I haven't been playing much poker lately and have been treating my time away from Vegas more like a vacation than I normally do. I always feel re-motivated and usually go on some good runs after I take some time off. Of course I will play PLO tomorrow down at Aztar after we have our Christmas with my Mom......other than that I won't be playing much outside of a few online sessions here and there.

I did play a little over 1,000 hands yesterday and won almost $800 playing mostly 2/4 NL and a little bit of 3/6 and 5/10 NL. I am going to be traveling until the middle of January so I should be very well rested when I get back to the full time grind.

The last few days....

We had Christmas with my Dad, Trudy, Nat, and Sharon. Trudy made her famous Lasagna and of course it did not disappoint. We got Dad and Trudy a DVR box for Christmas and I know once they get used to it they will be much happier/efficient TV watchers. Actually, I couldn't get the actual box for them, because my name wasn't listed on the bill. Therefore, I just went to the cable office and paid for a years worth of service so that all they had to do was go pick one up.

Dad and Trudy got me John Daly's new book and it will be an interesting read after having met him when I caddied for Jeff. He told us a story about how he lost $120K on one hand of blackjack the night before and I am pretty sure he says in that book that he has lost in the neighborhood of $60 Million gambling in his lifetime. $60 million seems soooo inflated, but when you are playing high enough to lose that much on one hand and you gamble as often as he does, it certainly is not out of the question. Not that his caddie keeps tabs on his gambling loses, but he told us the same figure and I actually believe it. Also, Dad and Trudy sad they were going to donate some money in my name to the Humane Society. I told both of my parents that I didn't need anything for Christmas and that whatever they were planning on spending on me I would prefer that they donate it to something instead. We also played an insanely long game of dominoes where Trudy crushed us all even though she seemed to start every round in the worst shape. Dominoes shouldn't take that long, but my brother, Nat, spent everyone of his turns hamming it up for the TV cameras and showing his dominoes to the viewers at home....oh wait....there were no cameras! Seriously, EVERY TIME it got to him we had to wait for him to make a decision....the worst part....there wasn't even any money being gambled! Oh well, we had lots of laughs and all had a good time playing.

Last night Justin, Leah, Kevin, and I went to the midnight service at CFC on Christmas Eve. It was a nice service and Kevin thought the people that worshiped by holding their hand up in the air while singing were out of their mind (apparently, people never do that at the Catholic churches he is used to attending). Afterwards, we went to Justin's house and ended up playing Euchre until about 4:00 am.

This morning I went to Justin's parents house for a Christmas breakfast and tonight we are going with Leah to work at a soup kitchen at the rescue mission downtown. Some of Mom's family is coming over this afternoon for a Christmas dunch......yeah thats right, dunch a meal served between dinner and lunch.

Tomorrow, all of my step-siblings and there spouses are coming over for our family Christmas.

Time to go hop in the shower and either squeeze in a nap or a few hands before Grandma and crew arrives for dunch.

I hate to say it....

...but I told ya so. In my last blog I had this to say about the PLO game at my hometown Casino Aztar.

"People just don't fold down there! The crazy thing is, I think I will still get action when I do play and happen to make something. It didn't happen today, but thats just the way it goes sometimes."

Well, today I made a few hands and got action just like I thought I would. I played for about 5 hours or so and won $2,794 playing nothing but the nuts. The game is so loose with so much action it calls for some adjustments in my game for sure. What I mean by adjustments is that I never raised preflop even ONE time the whole day and I was hardly ever the aggressor throughout the hand. I was the only guy in the game that didn't straddle, and surprisingly no one gives me any grief about it. Yet somehow I still got a decent amount of action on my made hands. Raising preflop in that game doesn't serve any purpose for me. I am not going to ever gain position by getting players behind me to fold and I don't feel like I need to make the pot any bigger when 8-10 people are seeing the flop. Someone is usually going to make the nuts (or something very close to it) so I feel like it is silly to build a pot without the nuts in the first place.

I know that if I am really going to beat the game for HUGE numbers in the future I will have to adopt a more loose aggressive style, but honestly I am not really comfortable enough with PLO to play that way just yet. For now, the $1-3K possible profit in the game is suitable for me, because I can accomplish those kinds of wins with minimal risk. I think if I played a little more Loose/Aggressive I could win $2-7K per session, but I would be gambling a lot more and risking much more money in doing it.

It is kind of amazing how good that game is. It doesn't go quite as strongly as it used to, but it is still a pretty salty game overall. They used to always have a must move game and it would go until very late at night and on into the next morning. Now, the game has been breaking up around 6-7pm which kind of sucks, but the lineup that they have for that period of time is about as juicy as it gets.

Here is a quick run down of the players that played for most of the time today:

Seat 1: Mikey - An Asian guy that will play a 9 high back door flush draw for all of his chips if he hits it. He seems VERY loose, but he certainly knows whats going on. You can tell this, because everytime a dispute comes up about how much is in the pot he knows to the exact dollar amount. In fact, he won a $300 bet today with Roger (seat 2) about how much someone could raise.

Seat 2: Roger Kamuf - A farmer from Owensboro, KY. He is a very experienced PLO player and is pretty dangerous. He is willing to gamble a lot and will definitely bluff when given the chance. He will go off for big numbers for sure and the more he is loser the more he starts gambling and raising. Seems to have endless money.

Seat 3: Charlie - A black guy that used to play basketball for Kentucky Wesleyan a long time ago (in fact i think he was their first black player). He is tight compared to the rest of the game, but will still gamble it up at the drop of a hat. Loves to play the dice, but it still good to put $2-3K in play throughout the day.

Seat 4: Gary Brackett - A local bookie and is probably one of the biggest losers in the game. He is really dangerous when he runs hot, because....well....he doesn't fold anything and he will certainly bluff if he misses a draw.

Seat 5: Fred Kent - His family owned Kenny Kent car dealerships, but I think he got bought out long ago. He has tons of money and is one of the worst players in the game. He will often try to make hero calls and can't be bluffed, but he will leave the game if he gets big winner. It is definitely good if he gets stuck early.

Seat 6: Dave Mounts - An older guy that owns a heating and electric company. Definitely the worst player in the game and has ENDLESS money. I mean his plays are just unexplainably bad. I am not even sure he can always read the board correctly and he accidentally showed me his hand almost every hand. Honestly, I tried not to look when I was in a hand with him, but sometimes it was just too blatant. The game is somewhat built around him, because he plays almost every day that the game runs and always has plenty of money to lose.

Seat 7: Me- Obviously the best player in the game (not really). Tightest guy in the game by leaps and bounds and everyone knows it, but what can they do about it? Nothing, because they are all degenerate gamblers, haha.

Seat 8: Dan Young - Has gotten considerably better in the last few years. He plays decently post flop, but he VERY rarely misses seeing a flop. He is one of the funnier guys I have ever met and I love playing with him. I usually try to sit near him so I don't miss out on any of his shenanigans.

Seat 9: Some super rich guy named Jerry - I heard today that he is worth $40-60 million from some old oil wells that he used to own. He buys in pretty deep and will keep reloading. He plays pretty straight forward.

Seat 10: Charlie Terry- Probably the biggest winner in the Aztar PLO game. He is the staple of the game as he is always there to start the game around 9am even though it doesn't start until around 1 pm. In my opinion he is the most dangerous player in the game as he is very hard to put on a hand. He was referred to as the "Captain of the game" tonight, because he single handedly decided that the game wouldn't run on Monday (Christmas Eve). He does a really good job of making the horrible regular players have a good time and enjoy losing their money which I am very thankful for. The rumor is that he has never had two losing days in a row in the Aztar PLO game even though I am not sure I believe it.

Sheesh, this was a long blog and I am done for the night!

Word travels fast....

....When you post a blog and the whole free world can read it.....

I have had several people that I didn't expect to know anything about my blog come up and mention stuff to me about it. It certainly caught me off guard a little bit and made me realize that I better be careful about what I post in there. Not that I have any secrets to hide really, but in general I don't really like talking to people about poker...especially people outside of the poker community. It gets boring answering the same questions over and over. For some reason (even when it isn't poker related), I have always had a deep hatred for having to tell the same story many times. For instance, it drives me crazy when the following situation takes place:

Person A: "Hey, have you heard the story about such and such?"
Person B: "No, I haven't. What happened?"
Person A: "Hey Pat, tell them that story, you tell it better than I do."

Since I am posting this blog pretty regularly I am actually creating this type of situation for myself by accident. People are now asking me about stuff that I wrote about in my blog. Since I have already told the story in my blog once I usually don't feel like telling it again. After I went back and re-read what I just wrote it makes me feel a little bit like I am anti-social (probably not too far from the truth, haha). I guess I should feel grateful that people are interested enough in my goings on to take time to read my blog in the first place. Just to save us all some time in the future I will go ahead and get the most common questions I am asked out of the way. Hopefully, this will at least force people to have to come up with some original questions to ask me.

1. Q: Where is your favorite place to play?
A: Bellagio, I probably play 90% of my live poker there and the other 10% is split up between Wynn, Caesars Palace, and The Venetian. I also play online a lot at Full Tilt and a little bit on Poker stars.

2. Q: Do you where sunglasses when you play?
A: Of course not.

3. Q: When am I going to see you on TV?
A: The real answer...never. The answer I always give...maybe one day. People just don't want to here me say "never" so I just pacify them by telling them maybe they will see me on there one day. The reason the answer is never is because I play almost all cash games and no tournaments and they only put tournaments on TV.

4. Q: Have you ever played with anyone famous?
A: I played in some promotional tournament with Jennifer Harmon and David Bennymine. I also played a cash game with Jerry Yang. Usually, the people asking this question aren't even going to know who those people are anyway and really just want to know if I have played with Daniel Negreanu, Doyle Brunson, or Phil Ivey. No, I haven't, sorry.

5. Q: Do you actually make money playing poker?
A: Yes, it is what I do for my job. They already know I play poker for a living or they wouldn't be asking me this question in the first place, but for some reason people always feel compelled to ask it anyway. I have decided it is because for most people it isn't fathomable that someone could actually make a living "gambling".

6. Q: So do you just travel around and play tournaments then?
A: No, I play mostly just cash games and hardly any touraments. This is usually the exact order that the questions are asked and as you can see I have already answered this question once, but people don't understand the difference between cash games and tournaments to begin with so they feel they must ask again.

7. Q: What do you do for housing?
A: I rent a house with some other poker players. I think people only ask me this because in the back of their mind they still think playing poker for a living is some shady business and they are just hoping I will say something outlandish like "I just bounce around from hotel to hotel" or "I rent a 10 X 10 room from an ad I saw on the back of one of those prostitute magazines the mexicans hand out along the strip". Think about it...when was the last time someone asked YOU what you did for housing after you told them what your job was? Well, I get asked it almost everytime and the only logical reason I can think of is that they are trying to get a read on the shadiness level of playing poker for a living.

8. Q: Tell me something....how much money will you make this year playing poker?
A: Does anyone EVER ask non-poker players this question in such a blatant fashion? Of course not! Like I said before, I don't have much to hide in the first place, but it is
hard to know how much I will make anyway so I usually just tell them just that. There are many more questions that are routinely asked, but these are the ones that almost always get asked. If you can manage to steer clear of re-asking these questions I will be impressed and we can mostly likely have a discussion about poker where I won't be forced into giving "cookie cutter" responses.

*In poker news....I played PLO at Aztar all day (about 6 hours) today and won exactly 3 pots for a loss of $27. That game has such great action it is simply amazing. I look forward to playing in it a few more times while I am home for sure. It is not uncommon for 8 players to see the flop for $30-50. That usually means I folded preflop and someone else is going to the bathroom. People just don't fold down there! The crazy thing is, I think I will still get action when I do play and happen to make something. It didn't happen today, but thats just the way it goes sometimes.

A rather unproductive day....

I didn't go to the Bellagio to play...again. I just really didn't feel like going to play again and my sleep schedule hadn't gotten any better even after my day off.

So, tonight I decided to stay home again and do some much needed laundry and play a little bit of PLO online. I lost about $100 playing and got a little bit of laundry done. I didn't finalize any travel plans like I wanted to. I am kind of still depending on some other people's plans to be finalized before I can do anything about my own plans. My schedule will hopefully look something like this:

*Leave for Evansville on the 16th
*Be in Evansville all the way through xmas and new years
*Catch a ride with one of my buddies to Tunica around the 3rd of January
*Fly from Memphis to Hawaii on the 6th, 7th, or 8th
*Fly back to Vegas on the 15th
*Fly to Louisville around the 31st of January to hang out with Landon and attend his superbowl party
*Fly back to Vegas around the 6th of February

A pretty busy January, but it should be lots of fun.

So....I kinda feel like Goldilocks lately...

12/15/07

You know how Goldilocks just gets to pick and choose whatever fits her preference at the moment? I have been acting like her lately. I have a big bed room with a nice comfy bed in it, but I also have a ridiculously large closet with a guest bed in it. Each bed has its own perks and each night I get to pick and choose which one best suits my current situation. Under normal conditions I would choose the bed in my bedroom because it has the more comfortable sheets on it and a TV that is is viewable from it. However, there are some times when the closet bed is a perfect fit for me.

Bedroom Bed:
1. More comfortable sheets.
2. Viewable TV from bed.
3. Don't feel like a weirdo for sleeping in my closet.

Closet Bed:
1. It gets much colder at night in the closet ( I love it cold when I sleep ).
2. It gets much less sunlight in the closet.
3. It is much quieter in the closet.

For the last 3 or 4 nights I have chosen the Closet bed, because I have been going to bed when the sun is coming up and my roommate has been sick and I can't hear him coughing when I am in my closet. It is a nice change of pace though from my regular bed...I almost feel like I am on vacation and staying in a hotel when I sleep in the closet.

Sometimes my stress level is through the roof with all of these paramount decisions I am forced to make.

So, I kind of slacked off today on my goal of playing everyday before I went home. I did it for several reasons.

1. I hadn't been playing my "A-game" the last two sessions.
2. My sleep schedule was getting more and more out of whack each day that I played live. It was to the point where I was going to bed around noon. Hopefully, taking this day off will get me back on schedule.
3. I was getting very bored/impatient after spending so many hours playing in such a short period of time.

I did manage to play about 400 hands of PLO online today and won $1,089 so the day wasn't totally void of any poker action and it felt good to have a day off from the Bellagio. I ended up going to some friends' house and played a little fight night on xbox 360 and the board game Cranium. I pwned Evander Holyfield (played by Buxx) with Roy Jones Jr. in a 12th round KO and we had a 1-1 draw in Cranium.

Tomorrow I hope to get all of my flight information figured out regarding Hawaii and/or Tunica....more on that tomorrow.

A lousy play and some new goals...

12/13/07

Poker hasn't gone as I had planned with all my playing before I left for Christmas vacation. I have been playing everyday like I planned, but I have lost the last 3 sessions. The first one I lost because I lost the $700 in cash. The second session I lost because I never made any hands and I ended up losing $2,222. In fact, I only won one showdown the entire night when I got it all in with QQ vs. AQ for about $300 each. Tonight, it was going really well and I was up about $800 before I lost about $1200 with KK vs. AA and I ended up losing $404 for the night. It was such a bad play on my part. It was a situation where I definitely should have been able to fold my KK preflop. It is so sick where I KNOW what the right play is and I go against it, because I let the little voice in my head say "There is never a situation to fold KK preflop". I knew he had Aces and somehow I talked myself into putting $900 more in when I could have just lost the $280 that I already had in. So disturbing, but hopefully I will learn from it and make a better decision next time. I decided that next time I am in a situation where I think I am beat with AK, KK, or AQ preflop I am going to make myself stop and actually verbalize what my options are and what could happen. In this spot I could fold and lose no more money, go all-in and lose $900 more, or go all-in and win $1500. There was like a zero % chance that he didn't have Aces and I am ridiculous for going all-in now that I think about it. I mean who really cares if I lose $280??? Sometimes I do such a horrible job of looking at the hand from an outsider's perspective and I let myself get caught up in the hand too much and it almost always leads to a bad play on my part. I am really disappointed that I showed so little discipline on that specific hand. Oh well, get em next time.

So, I was up $2899 and then I lost $2,222 and $404 in consecutive sessions so that puts me +$273 for the 5 days I have played. That is a pretty big let down considering I have played pretty well except for the KK vs. AA hand. Anyway, I still have 2 more days of playing left and I need to win $6,723 in those two days. Obviously, that isn't going to happen, but I can easily win $1,000 each day and still show a decent profit for the 7 day period.

I borrowed a book from Bobby Morgan tonight on investing in foreclosures. Apparently, Vegas is among the leaders in the country regarding foreclosures. I am going to try to really get educated about the housing market and aim to buy a foreclosure property at the end of our current lease. I always have big dreams like this, but I hope that if I write some of my goals down they will be more easily attained.

Right now my bankroll is somewhere around $40K and our lease is over at the end of June.

Goals:

1. Have bankroll to $80K by the end of our lease.
2. Get educated about the foreclosure and housing market by end of March.
3. Meet with banks to discuss me buying a house during April.
4. Find a house to buy from beginning of May to the end of June.
5. Buy house at the end of June.

Talk about a bad beat!!

12/11/07

Well, tonight was one of the most frustrating nights of poker ever. I didn't get cold decked or sucked out on and didn't lose that much money. In fact, I actually won money playing poker, but I left the poker room with less money than I went into it with. I was in the game for 1700 and I had been losing ALL night long, never going up or down too much at all. I didn't play any big pots really, I just missed lots of flops, had continuation bets fail, and made a couple of bad bluffs that got picked off. Then I went on a bit of a rush and won 3 decent pots in about an hours time and got somewhere around 600-800 winner. I went to cash out and I had $700 in bills and one full rack of $10 chips and another rack that was somewhere around halfway full. I know I had $4,000 in $100 bills when I started the day, but after I cashed out all of my chips and put all of my money together I only had a little over $1500 in money that I had just cashed out. I figured that I must have already put the $700 in cash I had with my other money ($2300 still in my rubber band) that I had in my pocket so I started counting all of the money I had and it just didn't add up. Somehow I only had $3800 in $100 bills. I talked to a supervisor about checking the cameras to see if I left it on the cashier's counter. Of course they said that I hadn't so I asked to see the footage myself. To my surprise they showed me the footage and sure enough, I picked up all of the money I had left on the counter! I just REALLY have no idea what happened to that extra $700, I just know for certain that I lost it somewhere.

It was just overly frustrating because I had been losing all night and did a good job of not tilting and fought my way back to get winner, but I still ended up losing money after my misplacement of my money.

One cool thing that happened tonight is that I got to play with the reigning world champion. Jerry Yang was playing at my first 5/10 NL table that I sat at. He changed seats and ended up immediately to my left. Usually, this sounds like it would be a bad thing to have a world champ on your left, but he played very loose/passive and I never really got involved in a pot with him. He moved to the main game after about 20 minutes, but while he was there he was very nice and friendly with people that wanted to talk to him and/or take pictures with him.

Anyway, I played about 7.5 hours tonight and ended up winning around 600 playing, but losing around $100 after my money mishap so I guess that brings me down to $2,799 in three days of playing and I now have to win $4,211 in the next 4 days of playing to reach my goal before I head home.

Ballin' out and bowling....

12/10/07

I have decided that it is much easier to stay on top of a blog if you have a laptop instead of a desktop....and when you are winning. It is kind of fun to lay in bed and recap your day before falling asleep and you can't really do that on a desktop. I have been on a pretty solid heater playing live poker as of late. It is almost like it is impossible for me to have a losing session if I play 5 hours or more. I don't feel like I running particularly hot either. I feel like I have a great feel for where I am at in hands and I do a really good job of controlling the size of the pot. I waited to play today until after bowling. Bowling kind of sucked tonight. I threw lots of strikes, but was amazingly horrible at picking up my 1-pin spares tonight. I probably left at least 8 of them which is absolutely horrible. I bowled around a 530 series which isn't the worst ever, but it really bad for how many strikes I threw tonight. Anyway, I went with Kevin and Bill to the Bellagio tonight. I won $768, Kevin won $2900, and Bill won $87. I talked Kevin into letting me keep most of his winnings to prevent him from blowing it when he gets drunk and shoots off in the pits and at the strip clubs. He can play poker well enough to make money, but he has trouble holding on to money outside of poker. Hopefully, he will let me keep holding on to his playing roll, because I really hate seeing it go to waste on strippers and pit games.

So far that is 2 days of the 7 that were left out of the way and I have played both of them and won a total of $2899. I have 5 days left to win $4,111. Kind of a lofty goal, but I think I should be able to do it if I put in enough hours, hopefully at least 25 (maybe 30).

Now, I am prolly gonna fall asleep trying to watch the rest of Knocked Up. zzzzzzz.....

1st day of my challenge...

12/9/07

Charlie, Denah, Clint, and Hajja left this morning. I love having visitors, but it is also always nice when you have your room back to yourself and you can walk around/sleep naked whenever you want. I woke up at a decent hour today and went to the Bellagio to play today around 12:30, but I couldn't get in a game until around 2:00 because all of the tables were filled with up with the super satellite for the 15K Main Event. I played 10/20 briefly until my 5/10 seat opened up. A few continuation bets didn't work out and I lose about $550 playing 10/20 in about 30 minutes. At one point playing 5/10 I was stuck around $800 and 1400 total for both games. I didn't play all that bad, but I just couldn't make any hands. I hadn't played any big pots, just hadn't hardly won ANY. Then things started to turn around when I won about a $3300 pot when I turned a gutshot nut straight in a 3 way pot then got dealt QQ in back to back hands and busted the same lady with them both times :) I ended up winning $2131 on the day and I am definitely on pace to win my $7000 before I go home.

Tonight I went bowling at the gold coast with Micon, Martha, Kdollar, Gank, and Anne. I didn't bowl very well...149, 148, 199. I lost $70 bowling, but I had myself in good bets to win money if I just bowl my normal game. I also won $15 playing Paigow poker before dinner while Kevin and I waited for the other 4. It is going to be hard to get a long session in tomorrow, because of bowling league. I might try to play after bowling, but that will get my sleep schedule all out of whack.

So tired.....

The fight and a short term goal...

12/8/07

Today was a really uneventful day. I didn't sleep hardly at all last night which is very rare for me. I got up in time to watch the IU-Kentucky game and IU did not dissapoint despite Eric Gordon and Armon Bassett not playing due to injury. I love it when IU blows out Kentucky and now that I think of it my buddy Fritz now owes me $20 as we decided to have a standing bet on the IU-UK game every year :) After I watched the basketball game I decided to order the Mayweather Fight. Charlie and I alternated picking fighters in the undercard fights for $10 apiece and I went 0-3, but he let me go double or nothing on Mayweather in the Main Event and I broke even. Mayweather won by knockout in the 10th round, but Hatton gave a good fight. The star of the fight was the fans from the UK....they were unreal with their chanting and cheering!

I am way tired and I am gonna hit the sack and hopefully put in a long session tomorrow at the Bellagio. I am going to try to play live everyday until I go home and average $1k/day during that time. That would be an extra $7K to my bankroll and I would feel like I deserved to relax over my Christmas vacation at home.

My first blog entry...

12/8/2007

I always wish that I would be able to keep up with a blog or a diary, because I think it would make for interesting reading for a lot of my friends and family and possibly even a book one day. Last year I decided to do a blog for my new years resolution, but I slacked off after about a week I think. I started thinking about how I would do it again this year and then I realized that it was foolish to wait until the new year to start it and if I was really going to do it there was no better time than now to start it.

I woke up late today...again. I got my adderall prescription filled and then headed to the Bellagio to put in a session before the The Wayne Brady show. I ended up winning $1253 in about 3-4 hours of playing. I had planned on walking to the show which was at the Venetian and started at 9:00pm. I had decided that I would leave at the dealer change that would take place at 8:30 and that would give me plenty of time to make it. Of course the last hand before the dealer change I get dealt pocket kings and end up playing a very difficult hand that took about 5 minutes. Luckily, I won the hand and it ended up being about a $1800 pot (half of which was profit). Anyway, this hand made it so I was running late for the show. I jogged over half of the way to the show and of course I sweating like crazy by the time I got there. I met Charlie, Denah, Clint, Hajja, and Clint's Grandpa at the show. The show was great. I have seen his show before, but since most of it is improv it makes it watchable many times. Andy Dick was in the crowd and Wayne pointed him out and Andy ended up on stage dancing at the end of the show.

After the show I went back to the Bellagio to play a little bit more. I played for a couple of hours, but the games were no good and I didn't get dealt any hands. I won $130 more or so, but I would have been just as well off going home.

I have been reading Mike Greenberg's book "Why my wife thinks I am an idiot". It was recommended to me by my buddy Matt Humphrey and it is pretty good so far. It is basically and collection of his journal entries and part of the reason I became motivated once again to resume my blog/journal.

I need to get some rest. We are grilling out tomorrow around noon for the IU-Kentucky game that starts at 1:00pm (it is currently 4:26am).

Also, tomorrow night is the Floyd Mayweather/Ricky Hatton fight, which I am pretty interested in after meeting Floyd in the hot tub at the gym the other night. I have since watched the HBO specials on the fight and I am more excited for this boxing fight than I have been about any fight since probably the Tyson/Lennox Lewis fight. All of the Europeans are in town and really betting heavy on Ricky Hatton, I think if you wait and bet on Mayweather right before the fight starts you will be able to get some good value out of it.
